Concerning the recent correction, the abuse you’ve been getting from colleagues, family, and friends, and the anxiety you may feel for investing in something that you saw as being more important or worthy than blind populism-fueled greed… I work in “QA” for a very successful financial software company, on a project for a very successful bank. We are all mostly techies of different kinds. He works in Market Surveillance, developing programs to bring into force some of the “legislation” and “safeguards” ushered in by the last financial crash. A very clever loudmouth who likes to poke fun, and will tangent any conversation until he’s right. Since he’d forced the subject weeks ago, he asked how my bitcoin’s going, to laughter in our huge office. “Early February I reckon. Lunar New Year, January Blues, all sorts.” Sat down. It’s a loud office, so during lunch, perfectly audible to everyone; “Go on then, incredibolox, try sell your btc to me. Why is it worth anything” Place goes a little quieter.
“Well normalisation could cut out the inefficiencies from mismanagement of the FX(foreign exchange) markets, do you reckon there’s any money in that?”
Then the whole place went dead quiet. Everyone suddenly has work to do. He’s still smiling, but it’s a sad smile, and I never really got a proper answer, but then again I don’t mind.
Please know that it’s usually the people with the least info that are the loudest. The rest of us are just here to correct them and tolerate them, honestly. Keep your chins up, folks, don’t let them get to you. This is for the newbies, and jealous I am, if the rest of us don’t let you down.
