I'm looking for a more secure way to store my bitcoins. I have read about mobile phone apps like breadwallet. There is also the hardware based wallets like Ledger or Trezor.

Breadwallet is only available on iOS. What happens if my phone gets stolen or broken (I know I can use the pass phrase but it assumes you buy a new iPhone I guess). So what if I want to move to Android, will this work? Or will I be 'forced' to buy a new iPhone in order to be able to get back my bitcoins?

Or is Trezor all together a better path to take? I can't claim I have a full understanding how it works yet, but since they have a chrome extension that works with their website, I'm wondering what happens if the company behind Trezor would disappear completely. How can one recover their bitcoins then? Also, what if the device simply starts to fail, is it as easy as just buying a new? I guess so, but what if Trezor is not there any longer?
