I was so happy to see that my favorite coffee shop started accepting bitcoin! Excited to show my friends how I can pay for a coffee using my favorite currency, I pulled out my wallet app and scanned the QR code and poof! It was done… well, sort of.

Since this coffee shop uses the Blockchain Merchant app, I was forced to wait for a confirmation before they could verify they received the money. Now, this is either because A) this app is outdated, OR B) Replace-by-fee has forced this company to wait for a confirmation. I had to wait until after I was finished with my coffee to leave. Could any of you shed some light on this?

Also, I looked at the fee and it was a staggering 56 cents! That's equivalent to a tax of 42%! I remember the first times I used Bitcoin at brick-and-mortar stores there was no fee. What has happened in the last two years?
