Why it takes so long to get 6 or more confirmations?

Hi All, I do believe that I have basic understanding how BTC transaction works including mining. My understanding is that “hard” part is to get transaction to be mined. From user perspective, this can be influenced (speed up) by increase of fee attached to the transaction. However, my question is related to what happens afterwards – once block is mined and transaction is included to it. My understanding was that once block is mined, solution to hash problem (together with transactions) is broadcasted (by quickest miner who found solution) to the network and full nodes will just confirm that this solution and block is valid and include it to the BTC blockchain. So if solution of (complex computational) problem is already known – why it takes so long to get further confirmations of transaction once it is mined? So for example if my transaction is included to the block 40 min after I broadcasted it to the network. Why it takes sometimes another hour to get few more confirmations? My expectation would be that it should take seconds (max few minutes) to get hundreds of confirmations. Why it is not like that? Thank you
